Butt Drama

Poor John. I guess it is not his fault. According to the on-call nurse, it could be my fault. I need to drink more water. After 4 ky jelly thermometer trips in the rear, this kid would not poop. We had to call and get some advice. The advice was a suppository. Or pear juice. Really pear juice? Who sells pear juice? If you ask Joe, he will tell you that the greater Short Pump area contains no pear juice. So we went with the suppository. Joe came back with three choices. After a long debate and visual comparison, we agreed on one. Then Joe decided we needed to cut it in half. In his defense, it did look quite large to go in such a small hole. We read the directions, talked about it, and then all of a sudden without hesitation...my mom took it and shoved it in. I guess that is what mothers just do. But not this one...I mean, why do it when your own mother is here and is willing to do it. Maybe John will associate the suppository experience with her and not me. Needless to say, it worked. Several times.

School

We had a great weekend! Grandma and Granddaddy came to play and did a lot of feeding times. I got to run errands and go out to dinner with some girlfriends! What a fun day!I even sat outside yesterday for a little bit.

I have a weird feeling today...I am supposed to have the "I can't believe summer is over..." feeling on the eve of school starting. I usually cry and make Joe get me a nice dinner and a beer. I complain about how we need to win the lottery. I fuss and usually deny that we are actually going to work. But I am not going back yet this year...so I don't have this feeling. And now that I am not going back, I am feeling somewhat bad that I am not going. What? When I filled out my planner, I was a little sad. For 25 years, I have been on the same school schedule. When I did not finish out the year in June, I felt unsettled. What a bizarre year this will be also to not open the school year. I know it will be fine it is just strange to not go to work!

With that said, Joe is going back to work tomorrow. But thank goodness that Granny B is coming for the week!!!!

Thanks for helping out on Friday Aunt Patty!! They miss you!

Sophie made this a few days before the babies were born! Too sweet!

It is amazing....

how many pictures it can take to get the one you think you may want. And then double it. I took over 700 pictures yesterday in hopes of getting at least one good one for our birth announcements.

Here are some that did not make the cut:

Hallucinations and Gibberish

We went to the Dr. yesterday...John weighs 5 lbs. 15 oz. and Virginia weighs 5 lbs. 13 oz. They have gained a lot since being home.

So in years past, anyone who has slept with me...and I mean that not in a naughty way...knows that I can hallucinate and/or talk gibberish in my sleep. I know I do it. I warn people in advance. In our old house, it would happen consistently in the spring. I would wake up and see spiders crawling in our room or down on me. I have to wake Joe up...tell him...and make him check the room. Even though the whole time I know it is not happening. My favorite is when I talk gibberish and I will actually say, "I know I am talking gibberish but I can't help it..." Hilarious. Well maybe to me, but not to him.

So we have both started having some hallucinations. Joe's first was when the babies were still in the hospital and he got up shouting at me that I was crushing the babies. I politely reminded him that the babies were at the hospital. Since they have been home, it is happening several times a night. I have a little pillow that I sleep with and constantly look at it in the middle of the night and try to unwrap it. But it is a pillow. Not a baby. Picture nighttime...sound sleeping...all of a sudden one of us will wake up and think the babies are in the bed. Last night, Joe actually took my hand and tried to take it thinking it was a baby's hand. Weird. I guess if we were ever on the fence about sleeping with a baby in the bed or in the room, it has been settled. The babies have never even been in our room and this is doing some serious damage on my sleep time.

If you thought I was kidding...

about Joe's new found cleanliness...

Joe: Come here for a second.
Allison: Ok...
Joe: What do you think?
Allison: About what?

Allison: Oh wow.

This is the entrance from our garage...

Ahh...

Dear Grandma:
Thank you for letting my mommy sleep last night and this morning. It was a real treat! Feel free to come back and feed, love, and hold us anytime!

Love,
John and Virginia

These preemie pants are now capris! YAY!

Trying out a chair for the 1st time!

We gave them a little freedom and this is what happens! Some kids would love to have this hair...I hope John does not eat all of hers.

Reality

I am starting to realize that Joe won't be here all day forever. Next Monday, he is returning to work. Yikes! Thank goodness we have some help lined up!

We had success with the alarm clock wakings last night. Whew! Turns out we have light poopers right now. After several days and a call to the Dr., a little KY Jelly and a thermometer did the trick.

Not much else is happening...my goal is to get them out in the stroller this week.

Joe has earned a little reputation as being the "Swaddle Police"...he is very serious about it and often reswaddles someone else's swaddle to make it better. He is very nice about it but he clearly sees when a job is not up to his standards. I, on the other hand, like for them to be free and break them from their swaddle confinement frequently. This is an example of Joe's swaddling....so serious that her feet can't even touch the bed.

This is an example of mine.

Carter reading a book to Virginia and Cooper.
P.S. Cooper's diapers looked like Depends compared to ours....but we are in Newborn at least!

And yes, we are calling that a double chin on her...
