Ok...so what I learned last night on our night out...is that I need to clear up a few things!
1. Feeding: The babies are feed through a tube that goes from a machine with syringe all the way into their nose. The tube goes straight into their tummy. That is the little tube you see in all of the pictures. When they get bottle fed, the nurses take half of the milk and put it into an actual bottle. Then they give the rest of the milk through the tube. The machine can regulate how much they get and how long it is dispensed.
This is the machine that does the feeding. They put the food in the syringe and it is dispensed through the small white tube.
They have a tube in their nose at all times. The food gets connected here and it goes right to them!
2. The Room: You may see the wires come out of their clothes at times. They are connected at all times to a heart rate monitor and respiratory monitor. They are connected by the leads on their body and they connect to the computer. At this point, it is just routine but at the beginning they used it more frequently to determine breathing patterns, etc.

The green number is heart rate and the white number is their respiratory rate.
These are the leads that are connected to the computer. She keeps her on all of the time. Somehow, John gets his replaced several times a day.

This is their bed at the moment. They set the temperature in the bed to a certain degree and then they take their temperature every 3 hours to see if they are able to regulate their own body temperature. When they are, they decrease the temperature. The ultimate goal is for both to be able to regulate their temperatures at room temperature. Both beds are set right about room temp, so we are hoping to move out of these soon!

Allison,
ReplyDeleteI am literally in tears after reading through all of your posts! You were in my thoughts and prayers all through your bedrest, but it was such a pleasure to read through the adventures once they were born! Your babies are not only beautiful, but they are such tough little cookies. I know that you are loving being their mommy and that you look forward to the day they come home for good. I am sure that, by far, this has been the most amazing adventure of your life and I am so happy that you have two healthy, happy babies to show for it. Congrats and thanks for the wonderful posts! :) Brandi Clifford
